# Freezer organisation checklist

Organise frozen food so it is easy to find and use: check labels, group portions, update an inventory and plan safe defrosting.

## Check what is stored

- [ ] Read your freezer’s storage and loading instructions
- [ ] Check the temperature against the manufacturer’s guidance
- [ ] Inspect one drawer at a time to limit warming
- [ ] Identify packages with missing labels
- [ ] Check for damaged or poorly sealed packaging
- [ ] Set aside uncertain items for a food-safety check before use

## Group and label

- [ ] Label identifiable packages with their contents
- [ ] Record known freezing dates without guessing unknown dates
- [ ] Group similar foods in suitable drawers or baskets
- [ ] Place older suitable packages where they are easy to reach
- [ ] Keep food packaging sealed to reduce freezer burn
- [ ] Avoid obstructing vents or exceeding loading guidance

## Maintain the system

- [ ] Make an inventory of the food you can identify
- [ ] Note portions that can be used for upcoming meals
- [ ] Plan fridge space for safe defrosting in a suitable container
- [ ] Update the inventory when removing a package
- [ ] Label new portions before putting them in the freezer
- [ ] Schedule a short inventory review before the next food shop
