# Home office setup checklist

Set up a practical home workspace: choose the spot, arrange your desk and screen, check your tools and establish a working routine.

## Choose the space

- [ ] Choose a spot where you can work with manageable noise and interruptions
- [ ] Check that there is enough room for the desk, chair and access
- [ ] Check lighting and avoid placing the screen where reflections make it hard to read
- [ ] Check the power sockets and internet connection available
- [ ] Agree with other household members how the space will be used
- [ ] Check any equipment or security requirements set by your employer

## Arrange the workstation

- [ ] Choose a stable work surface with space for the equipment you use
- [ ] Adjust the chair so your back is supported and your feet are supported
- [ ] Place the screen at a comfortable viewing distance and height
- [ ] Keep the keyboard and mouse close enough to use without reaching
- [ ] Use a separate keyboard and mouse if raising a laptop for longer work sessions
- [ ] Route cables away from walkways and leave room to move your legs

## Check your tools

- [ ] Test the internet connection where you will actually sit
- [ ] Check the camera, microphone and meeting software
- [ ] Install work tools using your employer’s approved process where applicable
- [ ] Set up the account security required for your work
- [ ] Choose a suitable place for paperwork and confidential material
- [ ] Check how important files are backed up

## Make it workable day to day

- [ ] Keep frequently used items within easy reach
- [ ] Plan breaks and changes of activity rather than sitting continuously
- [ ] Agree how colleagues can reach you during working hours
- [ ] Set a start and finish routine that suits your working arrangements
- [ ] Reassess the setup if it causes discomfort and ask for appropriate support
- [ ] Clear the desk and secure work equipment at the end of the day
