# Pet sitter handover checklist

Prepare a clear handover for your pet sitter: routines, supplies, home access, emergency contacts and the updates you want while away.

## Agree on the arrangement

- [ ] Confirm the dates, visit times and services included
- [ ] Arrange a meeting so the sitter can get to know your pet
- [ ] Explain feeding, exercise, rest and usual toileting routines
- [ ] Describe behaviour, fears and situations the sitter should avoid
- [ ] Agree how keys and access codes will be shared securely
- [ ] Agree on updates and what to do if the sitter cannot attend

## Prepare supplies and instructions

- [ ] Leave enough of the usual food with clear quantities and feeding times
- [ ] Show where clean bowls, fresh water and cleaning supplies are kept
- [ ] Leave familiar bedding, toys and any normal walking equipment
- [ ] Explain litter, bedding or enclosure cleaning using the pet’s normal routine
- [ ] If treatment is needed, leave the veterinarian’s written instructions and confirm the sitter can follow them
- [ ] Remove access to household hazards and explain doors or gates that must stay secure

## Contacts and final checks

- [ ] Leave your contact details and those of a trusted local backup
- [ ] Provide the usual veterinarian’s details and an out-of-hours contact
- [ ] Agree what action to take if the pet becomes unwell or goes missing
- [ ] Show where the carrier, lead and relevant animal records are kept
- [ ] Test the agreed access method before departure
- [ ] Confirm the final visit and tell the sitter when you have returned
