# Train journey checklist

Prepare for a train journey: tickets, station details, luggage, useful supplies and the checks to make before each connection.

## Before you travel

- [ ] Check the departure and arrival stations, including the exact station names
- [ ] Check the date, departure time and any time-zone change
- [ ] Read the operator’s recommended arrival time and boarding arrangements
- [ ] Check connection times and how to move between platforms or stations
- [ ] Arrange any assistance you need using the operator’s booking process
- [ ] Check current service updates before leaving home

## Tickets and bags

- [ ] Save tickets and booking references offline
- [ ] Pack the identification and travel documents required for your route
- [ ] Check the operator’s luggage and restricted-item rules
- [ ] Make sure you can carry and lift your own bags
- [ ] Add a luggage label without displaying unnecessary personal details
- [ ] Keep tickets and essentials accessible outside your main bag

## Comfort on board

- [ ] Bring drinking water and suitable snacks
- [ ] Pack headphones and download reading or entertainment
- [ ] Bring a charger and a charged power bank
- [ ] Pack a light layer for changes in temperature
- [ ] Keep medication you normally need within reach
- [ ] Bring tissues and a small bag for your rubbish

## At the station and on arrival

- [ ] Check the departure board rather than relying on an old platform number
- [ ] Locate your carriage and reserved seat where applicable
- [ ] Store luggage without blocking doors or aisles
- [ ] Check the next connection if your arrival time changes
- [ ] Check the seat, luggage rack and charging socket before getting off
- [ ] Save directions for the final leg from the arrival station
