# Unpacking after travel checklist

Unpack after a trip without spreading the mess: sort laundry, clean travel gear, put essentials away and handle the loose ends.

## Start with the essentials

- [ ] Put keys, wallet and travel documents in their usual place
- [ ] Remove any food and check what needs chilling or discarding
- [ ] Take medication and other daily essentials out of your luggage
- [ ] Open damp bags and separate wet items from dry belongings
- [ ] Choose a limited space and time for unpacking

## Sort clothes and toiletries

- [ ] Separate dirty clothes from clean items
- [ ] Check pockets before putting clothes in the wash
- [ ] Follow care labels when washing or drying travel clothing
- [ ] Dry towels, swimwear and footwear before storing them
- [ ] Clean and refill the toiletries you want ready for the next trip

## Reset your travel equipment

- [ ] Empty all suitcase compartments and small pouches
- [ ] Remove dirt and clean luggage according to its care instructions
- [ ] Let bags dry fully before closing and storing them
- [ ] Put adapters, chargers and travel accessories back together
- [ ] Note repairs or replacements needed before the next trip

## Finish the follow-up

- [ ] Check for belongings left behind and contact the venue if needed
- [ ] File receipts, booking documents and anything needed for expenses
- [ ] Back up the photos and files you want to keep
- [ ] Tell anyone looking after your home that you have returned
- [ ] Write down a few packing changes that would help next time
